I have created this blog to record my development and progress as a painter.
I have always had an interest in all things visual, and hold a BA 2.1 honours degree in Typography & Graphic Communication from The University of Reading, and an MA in Visual Culture from Bath Spa University. I have earned my living as both graphic designer and illustrator, but spent most of my career lecturing in various art colleges and universities. I took early retirement in 2005 as Head of Graphic Design at what is now University of Wales, Trinity St David, in order to focus on my painting. I now paint almost every day.
I used to paint mainly in watercolour and was elected to membership of The Royal Watercolour Society of Wales back in the early 1990s, but since I retired I work almost exclusively in oils.
Subject matter varies, but I am particularly interested in the rock formations and glorious coastal scenery of the Gower Peninsula close to my home in Swansea. All paintings are for sale unless otherwise stated. Prices range from £125.00 to £500.00. Enquiries: pobbles2000@yahoo.com
Beautiful pieces…I love the mood and feeling your paintings radiate 🙂
Thank you Nina, for viewing my paintings and for your kind words. Les 🙂
Ive enjoyed my visit so far, your work is connected to every day life, and I believe you’ve experienced those places first hand. That’s also the road I have decided to follow in my work. I can really relate to that.
Thank you for your comment, Julie. Yes, I have experienced all the places in my paintings first hand, although I rarely paint on the spot. Rather, I work in my studio from sketches, colour notes, photographs and other gathered information – and from my memory. Best of luck with your work. I’ve had a quick peek at your website and your paintings are well composed, imaginative and very accomplished. Regards, Les.
